Week 7 – audio

Aim: Is to record Audio using LINE and submit your 10 second final summary

Method: Please do the following tasks

PowerPoint: Please make a new PowerPoint and copy your Summary Slide.

Steps:

  • The name of your slide is audio_summary
  • Change your slide format from horizontal (landscape) to vertical (portrait) – click on design – go to design size and change the setting, click on E (to change the slide format and size)
  • Add a picture from your original slideshow –

Example: In academic situations you sometimes need to use vertical format, for example posters, as well for printing in official documents or magazines or books

Submission:

  1. LINE audio; create a LINE group called wedp2g#; invite the teacher to the group; record the audio using the LINE audio function (start/stop). listen to your audio, if you want to delete it and record again – multiple attempts is okay!
  2. At home record your audio and upload your slide as a pdf
  3. Deadline is Friday 9pm please:)

W6 – Writing more information

Aim: To expand our research and add information to our master slide

Method: Teacher instruction

Objective: To add more information to the slideshow (master file 1). Follow these steps:

  • add more information to slide 6a: cultural aspects
  • sentences explaining something – is 1 method
  • using pictures and describing the picture / scene – is method 2
  • including; your experiences and opinions is another way to add information (method 3)

Procedure: copy the original slide 6a information and make a new PowerPoint. Then complete these task

Summary Slide: There are many types of Summary formats. For example; You can ask your audience are question (?); To give your final opinion (the last thing you want your audience to think about)

In addition American or Western style like to use a “Final Statement”. A sentence that has a final impact on the audience! Impact: is a way to ask the audience to think more deeply about the topic!

For example: Australian Culture:

You have to see it to believe it but Australia is one of the most beautiful countries with amazing culture throughout the world“.

Zoom Recording – in class

Aim: Present your Speech “Animation” PowerPoint in ZOOM today in class. Follow these steps;

*Notice: we can not record in class today. Because the web cameras and headphones were removed from the cyber studio. Class with the teacher will be 1 hour, the other time – please record at home and upload by 9pm tonight (Thursday lunchtime – latest)

  • check your web camera and headset on the PC
  • open your PowerPoint on your PC
  • log into ZOOM and start your own meeting – schedule a meeting, and click save
  • start meeting – launch meeting a) download zoom and use the PC app, or b) use the internet browser (chrome). You should see a black box / screen.
  • left button at the bottom you can connect to audio and video – test
  • share screen with your PC. Check the green button, and select your PC screen to see in Zoom. The dashboard goes to the top of the PC screen (hiding), mouse over the top to see your dashboard. Red button to stop share
  • show your TV screen in the top left or top right
  • click record to start and click stop to end
  • end the meeting, and you can download the zoom recording
  • save the MP4 file on your computer; ZOOM folder
  • upload to the Gandai portal

Objective: To record your speech in ZOOM, and save your recording, and upload MP4 into the Gandai Portal

W5 – Slide show to Speech

Aim: To transfer from a PowerPoint slide show to a speaking presentation

Speaking Objectives: complete the following to edit your slides and text (content). Read your content and the total time is 65 seconds!

Method: save your PowerPoint as CultureandCartonns_speech

  1. Slide 1 – Title (same slide)
  2. Story Plot – (10seconds): read your text and edit. Your speaking criteria is only 10 seconds (not words)
  3. Location – (5 seconds): read your text and edit.
  4. New Slide (old slide 4 and 5) – Make a new slide called Characters (text only). present your characters in (20 seconds)
  5. Slide number 5 is slide 6b – (20seconds): read your text and edit.
  6. Slide 6 is old number 7(slide) – (10 seconds): read your text and edit.

Homework: finish your speech and bring to class next week – present in your groups.

W4 – Culture through animation

Aim: To explain a cultural aspects about Japan, using Japanese Animation and movie categories

Cultural Aspects: a lot of things can be learned, for example:

  • clothes
  • food
  • history / famous stories
  • places and scenery of Japan
  • people and relationships
  • beliefs (what people believe) and ideas
  • language
  • different people characters
  • seasons of Japan
  • other interesting things…

Method: Select a Animation movie and search for a specific “Movie Trailer”; its a preview of the movie

Procedure: Search for your own Animation Trailer on YouTube

Steps: May 11th Slide 1 to 6 please finish

  1. Slide 1: Paste URL into a new PowerPoint. Title is “Culture and Cartoons”
  2. Slide 2: Watch the video! Then write what the Story Plot is (30 words).
  3. Slide 3: Describe the location of the movie – where is the movie setting? include a picture
  4. Slide 4 – 5: Describe two main characters – who are the main people or animals in the movie? Name; appearance (look); personality / character.
  5. Slide 6a: In your own words: what does this movie teach about Japanese – culture, people, stories, food, customs, clothes / costumes… (50 words)
  6. Bonus Slide 6b: Make a list of your top three animation movies
  7. Slide 7: Recommendation (30 words)

Language objectives: To focus on introducing your content to foreigners.

Slide 2: explain the main point of the story

Slide 3: is the location real or fantasy, what things about the location can you describe

Slide 4 – 5: explain personalities, relationships, and interesting things about the characters in the story

Slide 6a: link to the cultural ideas (above) based on

  • based on our own experiences
  • by opinion: everyone knows about this animation
  • your impression: about how well the animation connects to Japan culture
  • to achieve the goal of the exercise

Bonus Slide 6b: list or compare your 3 favorite animations;

  • explain why you like these animations
  • explain what is similar or different about them

Slide 7: Giving a recommendation. There are several ways to give your recommendation. Recommend a foreigner to:

  • the story plot; or
  • location of the movie; or
  • the characters; or
  • what you can learn about Japanese people

Working Criteria: check your content and the goal of the exercise by;

  • read aloud your content and self-evaluate;
  • check the content is easy to understand;
  • if you are not sure then try using different words
  • go back to the slide objectives, ask your group members to read your slides – get feedback

Hello everyone! Nice to meet you. I am Simon Townsend, please call me Simon. I am from Australia, and I am a Math High School teacher, and now computer engineer – I teach STEM: Science – Technology – Engineering – Maths: my favorite class is teaching kids how to make robots. In my free time I like to go hiking, and also in winter I like to go to onsens. I like cooking – but I am not very good. My best dishes are pasta & pizza. I can also cook Japanese pizza. Topic: Food and Nutrition

Aim: Produce a ZOOM recording of a PowerPoint slide presentation

PowerPoint Objective: Create your own theme about Food & Nutrition and prepare a short presentation. Your slides only need your text to read your script, no images/photos is needed. Follow the format below:

Slide 1: Read your title – 5 seconds

Slide 2: Read your Main Point 1 – 20 seconds

Slide 3: Read your Main Point 2 – 20 seconds

Slide4: Read your Final opinion and conclusion – 15 seconds

ZOOM Objective: Record yourself present on PC:

  • log in to zoom and start your own meeting

Speaking Objective: When you read a script for example there are two main things to think about

  1. Fluency – this is the pace of your reading, also it means when you pause, speed up, slow down….
  2. Stress (intonation) – this is the highlight of “KEY” words.

Practice: read to each other – think about how the presentation sounds; How would you do it differently after practicing? Things to continue to do:

  • audio record and listen to yourself – think of ways to improve
  • check your stress is highlighting the vocabulary or phrases on your topic
  • check the order of your main points
  • when you give your opinion – is it clear?
