10/15 – Task 4 to 6

Aim: To describe Japanese culture to a foreigner

Steps: Follow these steps; write 30-45 words about the three cultural aspects (things). Remember you are explaining; Food; Seasons; and other – select another aspect and explain it about Japan.

Language Goal: you are explaining information to a foreign person who has never been to Japan. It is important to use key words to help describe your information.

  • Task 6: Other: J-POP, Festivals (hometown); university life; holidays (Obon/Golden Week); Religion; clothing (Kimono/Yukata) …

Teacher example: Food

Japanese cuisine is very different depending on the time of year. Japan has a strong food culture. Prefectures are famous for particular foods. For example, my two favorites are strawberries in Tochigi and cherries in Yamagata. There are many kinds of dishes from cold to hot pot dishes. (45words)

Class Activity 10/22 (10points); There are two documents to create for class today

  1. Word document
  • Type Task 5 and 6 in a word document (Your responses)
  • Type a heading ( Heading size = 14pts / Bold (black) )for each task (type your own title)
  • Select an English Text for typing, for example: Arial, Century, Georgia (Text size = 12pts)
  • Type the word count in brackets at the end (35)
  • Then give your Document a Title: Culture (16point / Bold (Black) / center )
  • Under your title add the name and student number (center / 14pts)
  • Save your document after you finish
  • Print your document using a class printer (A311###)

2. PowerPoint

Follow the instruction for 3 slides

Slide 1: Title / Name / Student number (same as word document)

Slide 2: Select the new slide and copy and paste your heading and text (paragraph); Also add a picture in the left side of the slide (left box); check the format is the same as your word document – text font / size

Slide 3: Select the new slide and copy and paste your heading and text (paragraph); Also add a picture in the left side of the slide (left box); check the format is the same as your word document – text font; Use 16pts for text for the PowerPoint.

Print your PowerPoint slide as a 3 slide presentation

HW 4-5 17th – 24th

Aim: To finish your PowerPoint – there are 6 tasks. You have 7 slides.

Present your presentation in 31st, October in groups.

Procedure: Use the Text APP “Cathoven” to improve your English.

How to use your CEFR feedback?

  • write a section of text and check the overall score
  • on the free version, you can only use 6 times a day (24 hours)
  • you can improve vocabulary by checking the level of difficulty
  • you can edit and improve your sentence structure
  • you do not need to get a high score “result” every time. Please use as a guide to help you use high level words (topic terminology) and complex sentences
  • any stage of your writing you can use this discourse analyzer

Learning how to convert word text into CEFR application

Aim: to evaluate your written text

Procedure: Copy your responses from the worksheet to the word document

Steps:

  • Open a new word document and save as “Unit4_student number”
  • Copy your first response (Task 1). You do not need a title. Type only your response.
  • Save again.
  • Click on the link: here

  • Select the analyzer type: drobox – number 2 ‘CEFR’

Topic: Customs & Traditions (CT)

Aim: In this topic you are going to learn about the meaning of “Customs & Traditions” and why it is so important.

Objectives: read the activity objectives below;
