Aim: To finish your PowerPoint – there are 6 tasks. You have 7 slides.

Present your presentation in 31st, October in groups.

Procedure: Use the Text APP “Cathoven” to improve your English.

How to use your CEFR feedback?

  • write a section of text and check the overall score
  • on the free version, you can only use 6 times a day (24 hours)
  • you can improve vocabulary by checking the level of difficulty
  • you can edit and improve your sentence structure
  • you do not need to get a high score “result” every time. Please use as a guide to help you use high level words (topic terminology) and complex sentences
  • any stage of your writing you can use this discourse analyzer

Unit 8: Speaking Assignment 1

Aim: Create a PowerPoint presentation

Procedure 1: Make a slide for each task (question) from the writing assignment (Date / Link). Follow these instructions;

  • Create a new theme in PowerPoint – 6 slides
  • Include your name and student number in the first slide (bottom right)
  • Create a new slide for each question and task
  • You can not change the information
  • Select a photo for each slide

Procedure 2: Print out your power point (3 slides – page)

Procedure 3: Write your speech on the speech card. Highlight the key words and phrases – look up and speak strategy.

Writing: Living a Balanced Life

Time: 10:30 to 11:30 (1 hour)

Aim: To answer questions and write your responses

Method: To complete the worksheet, and submit when you finish (you can leave the classroom). There is no homework!

Task 1: Video

  • Watch the video 1 more time, and then
  • Video 1 or Video 2: Write your impression “your opinion” about this video (20words)

Task 2: Meaning

  • Video 1: Write your own definition of the title “Learning to Live a Balanced Life” (10-20words)
  • Video 2: Write your own definition of the title “Social Dimension” (10-20words)

Task 3: Explain

  • Video 1: How important do you think it is to have a balanced life? Explain your answer. (30words)
  • Video 2: How important do you think it is to have a good relationship with people? Explain your answer. (30words)

Task 4: Japanese Student Lifestyle

On a scale of 1 to 5 ( 1 is the least and 5 is the highest) how balanced is your lifestyle / are your friendships? Complete the sentence below. Explain your answer (30words)

Task 5: Compare

Step 1: First, watch the video with no subtitles, and try and understand the content – what is the topic about? Do not take notes at this stage, just listen.

Template: A template is a way or method to record information

  • Intensity: This is a low intensity exercise because I can take my time. [intensity=effort to do something. There is ‘low’ and ‘high’ intensity]
  • Level of enjoyment: I enjoy walking my dog on a nice sunny day, but it’s not fun when its raining or in winter [a comparison of good and bad]
