Essay 1

Aim: Select any topic you like and write a essay report.

What is a report?

Please follow the guidlines: word length is 350 words – each paragraph is 70words;

  • Introduction paragraph
  • 3 Body Paragraphs
  • Conclusion Paragraph

2. Paragraph Writing Objective

 

Aim 1: To write; Title / 3or4 Key words /  Introduction / Body paragraph / Summary

  • topic title
  • key words – alert words – a few words or a phrase (last)
  • short Introduction – ask the reader 2 questions 
  • body paragraph – write about your topic and write facts of information (FOI); about 75-90 words
  • summary – give a short summary on your topic and give your opinion
  • impact sentence (1 only) – give the reader advice (Wednesday)

Aim 2: Draft essay to Final essay: Please follow these instructions and show me your essay in class on Monday.

  • Write your introduction 50 words including two questions
  • Your questions should relate to the content (body paragraph)
  • And your content should have the answers to the questions – so add information to the paragraph if you want to!
  • Delete the subheadings of your essay
  • Font: Arial
  • Title Font size is 14pts – Bold; Text size is 12pts
  • Spacing: 1.5
  • Include References title (same as Title)
  • Below References Type your Name and Student number (right Justify)

Aims

To contribute information as an official document; handbooks, articles, manuscripts (offical paper/offical essay)

1. Using visuals for your essay; single spacing for Headings and special information; remember to place your graph in the right postion – below the paragraph.

2. Use the citation in your essay corrrecftly using name and year (Townsend, 2017); Townsand says that, “Homework is not necessary in rural areas in Australia due to hardships” (2017.

3. Add the information to your references using the number [1] method

4. To use Key Words under the Title of your document; international standard 3-5 words or short phrases

5. Abstract – pre introduction; there is another method for undergraduate students (applying for study abraod)

  • Write a brief/background

  • Background is a 2-3 sentence paragraph under the title

  • Write details about; yourself, the purpose or reason why you are writing this essay – motive

  • slanted text/italic text

    6. Appendix – is information that is not in your document but if the reader wants to know more information you can add it here

  • under the references

  • For example – you didnt use the information in your document but the information helped you.

7. Name convention – centered under the Title; firstname/middle name intials/lastname/, Insitution name Department (option)

Dec 6th

Repeat Essay

Aim: to select an essay you wrote earlier in the course and re-write it.

5 Methods of improvement:

  • research more information; dont forget to reference

  • change the style of paragraph writing

  • correct mistakes

  • link the paragraphs together;  to improve reading flow

  • add visual information such as pictures, graphs, diagrams and so on; remember to give your figure a title in your essay.

Word Count max:450words

Aim: Select a new topic from the subject list in your ICT course, and write an essay based on any writing format conducted in class.

Teacher Feedback: Complete your draft essay; each student will recieve 10 mins feedback on the 3rd of Dec.

Part A

Aim: to identify a problem and write about it, and present 2 3 solutions.

Method: Follow this writing format;

  • Select a topic from Physical any of the Sciences

  • Body Paragraph 1 – Present the problem – 2 sentences to restate the problem

  • Body Paragraph 2 – Write solution 1 – 50 words

  • Body Paragraph 3 – Write solution 2 – 50 words

  • Body Paragraph 4 – Write solution 3 – 50 words

Remember to do the following;

  • Reference – add you resource links / information at the bottom of the page, and use the number system [1] / [2] / …. in your paragraphs

  • Do not include your opinion

  • Please include FOI (Facts of Information) examples and reasons

Part B

Introduction

Follow these steps to write your introduction;

  • sentence 1: introduce the problem

  • sentence 2: introduce solution 1

  • sentence 3: introduce solution 2

  • sentence 4: introduce solution 3

  • sentence 5: ask the reader a question about the topic Say how you are going to present a solution (Type B or Type C).

  • sentence 6: Say why it is important to solve this problem

Conclusion

Select a type of conclusion to write;

Type A

  • sentence 1: summary of the problem

  • sentence 2: summary of solution 1

  • sentence 3: summary of solution 2

  • sentence 4: answer the question in the introduction (sentence 4)

Or Type B

  • sentence 1: restate the problem

  • sentence 2: summerize solution 1 and solution 2 and solution 3

  • sentence 3: select which is the best solution and say why (your opinion)

  • sentence 4: support sentence for sentence 3; example, statistical information…

  • sentence 5: answer the question in the introduction (sentence 4)

Or Type C

  • sentence 1: restate the problem

  • sentence 2: summerize solution 1 and solution 2 and solution 3

Lesson 6/7 October 22nd /24th

Opinion Essay

Aim: to write the opinions of others in context of your argument; give your opinion based on the argument

Method: select an argument in your field of study and select a topic; title – A verse B a social science topic

Order of paragraphs

1 Body Paragraphs: write about three two main points (one paragraph for each main point) and give various view points of different people.

2. Write body paragraph number 3 – your opinion based on the opinions of the other 2 body paragraphs

2 3. Conclusion: write your conclusion by giving your perspective on the topic – your opinion based on the information in the body paragraphs. Include a final statement about the topic.

3 Introduction: introduce the relevance of this topic; give the three two main points in the essay and your opinion paragraph; introduce an interesting fact of information about this topic. Do not give your opinion.
