June 30 – Culture Project 2

Method: Today is a project day. Your aim is to make a PowerPoint presentation

Step 1: How to make your PowerPoint?

  1. Please open a new PowerPoint
  2. Name your PowerPoint L10MangaCulture2
  3. Title Slide: Japanese Manga and image
  4. Write a short introduction explaining Japanese Comics – to foreigners (30 words)
  5. Select your first Japanese comic and describe it, include an image (20-30 words)
  6. Select your second Japanese comic and describe, include an image (20-30 words)
  7. Give your experiences – have you read comics? which comics? Include an image (20-30 words)
  8. Explain what are the advantages of reading Mango to help teach foreigners about Japanese culture? (30 words) Which Manga do you recommend?

Step 2: Make your script

  • Read your Title – 5 seconds
  • Introduction – 10 seconds
  • Comic 1 – 10 seconds
  • Comic 2 – 10 seconds
  • Experiences – 10 seconds
  • Recommend – 15 seconds

Step 3: Record your speech before next class

  • in a private place,
  • hold your smartphone one arms length away from your body,
  • position yourself in front of the computer screen,
  • and read your script,
  • next upload to YouTube and save the URL,
  • and send to your new LINE group,
  • give your rubric – number 2 link

4 class activity – animation video

Aim: To give and receive feedback from other students. There are four classes joined together in the Workshop.

June 28 to June 30: Please upload your Speaking Video URL. In the Title write “Zoom Recording Presentation” In the description please type your YouTube URL, and submit

July 2nd 5pm to June 4 9pm: Every student is allocated other students videos: There is a score (points), short written comment (write in English one positive point and one point to improve), and there is also an ‘overall feedback’ – please write your final impression of the video.

July 5 to July 7: Read your evaluation and feedback.

Speech Guidelines

  • Finish the Stage of Development – Draft to Final; to achieve the language objectives
  • Save your final PowerPoint file as ImpressionAnimationVideoFinal
  • Record your PowerPoint Video: use your own zoom session to record and next upload to YouTube: by Friday 9pm
  • Check using Rubric for Zoom, and line (in new group) your self-evaluation score
  • Objective 1: Slide 1 and 2: Focus on Foreigners
  • Objective 2: Culture Content
  • Share your URL YouTube link in your new pair group! watch everyone’s video before the next class.

June 16 – 23

Aim: To explain a cultural aspect about Japan, using Japanese Animation and movie categories

Method: Select a Animation movie and search for a specific “Movie Trailer”; its a preview of the movie

Procedure: Search for your own Animation Trailer on YouTube

Steps

  1. Paste URL into a new PowerPoint file called (slide 3): Impression Animation Video.
  2. Slide 3: Watch the video! Then write what the Story Plot is on the next slide (30 words).
  3. Slide 4: Describe the location of the movie – where is the movie setting?
  4. Slide 5 – 6 – 7: Describe the main characters – who are the main people or animals in the movie? Name; appearance (look); personality / character. For example 3 main characters – 1 slide for each!
  5. Final slide: In your own words: what does this movie teach about Japanese – culture, people, stories, food, customs, clothes / costumes… (50 words)
  6. Slide 1: Title and the reason why you chose this animation: I chose this animation because
  7. Slide 2: Based on your understanding on this animation, recommend this movie to foreigners

June 23

Slide Format: We are now in the draft stage of development. I have a question for you: Why did we do these steps in this order?

Answer: It is important to finish the main information, to finally complete the final objective.

Final and Language objectives: To focus on introducing your content to foreigners.

Slide 1: When we give a reason, there are a lot of ideas we can use to explain our actions, for example:

  • based on our own experiences
  • by opinion: everyone knows about this animation
  • your impression: about how well the animation connects to Japan culture
  • to achieve the goal of the exercise

Slide 2: Giving a recommendation. There are several ways to give your recommendation, for example:

  • to share something with others
  • to connect or to build a relationship
  • to identify and give explanations to difficult ideas or concepts

Stage of development: We are going to move or make a transition from the draft stage to the final stage; 1. Content; 2. Format

Steps:

  • save your document with the word draft, for example: ImpressionAnimationVideoDraft
  • Content (1): check your content and the goal of the exercise by;
  • read aloud your content and self-evaluate;
  • check the content is easy to understand;
  • if you are not sure then experiment;
  • go back to the language objectives and try different ways to do them;
  • try another way to achieve the language objective;
  • continue this process and read aloud again, and so on
  • use the Rubric for PowerPoint (number 1)
  • when you finish save file as: ImpressionAnimationVideoFinal
  • go to homework – Speech Guideline

June 23 Homework – Record your speech: Follow the guideline to complete your speech.

June 16: LINE Activity: chat and audio about animation movies;

  • Objective: communicate and talk about your movies with each other
  • Share the YouTube URL
  • Watch the movie trailer
  • Make comments, ask questions, reply – discuss what your ideas and opinions are

June 23: LINE Activity: in your pair groups (two groups together):

  • watch each others speeches
  • make a comment about;
  • A) animation – your opinion
  • B) Video content – what did you like about the speech? Comment on every group members speech.

June 16: Home Work
