Course aims and objectives:
Method: Paragraph writing and format
- Each paragraph will be outlined with a purpose and word count (limit)
- Specific writing objectives will be given for each paragraph with the main focus on;
- each paragraph has a topic sentence (first sentence) explaining the essay / paragraph
- support sentences will be used to write a particular paragraph, which are;
Support Sentences: are sentences that support your argument (ideas) in your writing, which are;
- give examples
- facts of information (FOI) – research the internet
- opinions – both supporting viewpoints and opposing view points
- beliefs – which are experienced, taught or learned
- theories – laws or concepts that are related to physical science topics and other proven methodology
Paragraph structure: There are two ways to order your argument in paragraph writing:
- strongest idea to weakest idea – top down method
- or reversed – weakest building towards strongest idea
Essay structure: It is also important to link your ideas between paragraphs to strengthen your argument (ideas). Ways of doing this include;
- introducing the next body paragraph in the concluding sentence of the previous paragraph
- rephrasing main ideas in short points to link ideas between paragraphs
- referencing to support ideas in paragraphs
