Demonstration (p.58) Learning about the plate method

Follow these lesson steps:

1. Play the YouTube video. Please turn on the video transcript. See the screenshot below. The video is on the left and the transcript is on the right.

1. Here is the video. Please watch:

2. Listen, and make a list of key-vocabulary and phrases, between 10-15words. Check the meaning of these words using your dictionary.

3. Answer these questions (13) in English in the eBlog. The time of the video is given to help you:

4. Turn the transcript off and listen to the video again. Repeat the video and learn the English vocabulary and phrases.

5. There are two exercises to submit;

  • Summarize this topic video – 100 words in the eBlog; Title “Video Summary”
  • Prepare a short speech titled “My Diet” 45 seconds; including good points and bad points, and opinion (15seconds each part). Use note cards!

My lunch

Assessment 1: 20% Submit: Monday 9pm, 3rd August.

Aim: Make a simple lunch “My lunch” at home and record how to make it. You do not need to make a cooked lunch. Make something easy for you to make

Method: make a lunch at home, and take photos with your smartphone while you make it, and use PowerPoint.

Procedure: You need to write this information, and include the slides;

  • Title Slide: My lunch is: ……….
  • Description Slide: This is a simple …
  • List of Ingredients Slide; food 1; food 2; food 3; food 4; food 5; food 6; food 7;
  • Steps Slides: 6 to 10 steps; for each step you need heading “Step #” 1 – 2 sentences – explain the step; and 1 picture – please use your smartphone to embed photos.

Bonus points:

  • hygiene: wear an apron and wash your hands
  • include yourself in a photo in the Title Slide
  • correct English grammar, and spelling.

Theme: I’ll show you how – My Lunch

Objective: Video Promotion. Make a video to promote your lunch.

Make an a) interesting, and b) informative video to teach the students about your new delicious and healthy dish: 60 – 75 seconds, upload to LINE. Keep the file size limit small / low quality.

Ideas. You can select from the below criteria;

  • any pictures you want to show in the video; poster or slides
  • good points about the dish nutrition
  • use specialised vocabulary about health.
  • use English expressions
  • how much will your dish cost, for example 300yen
  • recording location, anywhere you want to; cafe, kitchen, and you can use a smartphone app if you want to (free)
  • will you record, or will you ask someone to record for you.

YouTube

  1. From the Apps Menu screen, choose the Gallery ‘Photo’ app.
  2. View the video you want to upload. …
  3. Touch the Share button, and choose YouTube from the menu. You will need the YouTube app downloaded on your phone.
  4. Fill in the details of this video. Title: your topic; Description: wedp2
  5. Remember to make your video level 2. Level (2) is unlisted. This means that only your video is visible by a URL link.
  6. Touch the Upload button. It may take 2-5 minutes depending on your wifi connection.
  7. The URL of the video will be displayed. Copy this URL.
  8. Submit the URL as instructed by your teacher

Learning Culture through Movies

Announcement: There is only 1 zoom lesson today. Please submit before the next class thank you.

Aim: To report about culture through movies

Method: Select a Japanese movie, or Japanese animation, or Japanese drama

Procedure: Complete the following limits and writing parts:

There are three limits:

  • word count
  • time – seconds
  • no limit

There are 5 parts:

  1. Movie / Animation Title : no limit
  2. Introduction (opener / topic statement / preview: word count (30)
  3. Movie plot / setting : word count (30)
  4. Character (s) : word count (30)
  5. Question: What does this movie / animation teach about Japanese culture : time – seconds (45)

Japanese culture: a lot of things can be learned by watching movies and animation, for example:

  • clothes
  • food
  • history / famous stories
  • places and scenery of Japan
  • people and relationships
  • beliefs (what people believe) and ideas
  • language
  • different people characters
  • seasons of Japan
  • other interesting things…

How to submit:

  1. Parts 1 to 4 – eBlog
  2. Part 5 – video record (selfie and send to me)

This is a rubric or assessment criteria. We can use for self-evaluation; peer-evaluation (feedback to other students) or teacher final grade. Today please use for evaluating your own speech (45seconds). You do not need to score, PLEASE think about the Language objectives.

Aim: To identify and describe the outline of a movie, and to discuss movies

Method: To follow a criteria for describing and talking about movies

Procedure: Follow these steps:

Step 1. Think of a movie that you like and write the main points (on computer document). Think about why do you like it? Complete the following information about the movie

  1. Movie Title
  2. Plot of movie – describe the movie story (20words)
  3. Main characters – who are they (at least two characters)
  4. Setting – where is the movie filmed
  5. What parts of the movie did you like the most and why? (20words)

Step 2: Find a movie trailer in YouTube

Step 3: Copy and Paste the Movie URL into the eBlog; and Copy and Paste the above information (5 points).

Step 4: Watch the movie trailers of your classmates favourite movies. Leave comments if you want to.

Aim: Talk about movies and describing them. Rating movies.

Method: Brainstorming, researching and describing

Procedure: Follow these steps;

Step 2. eBlog – What is the “story line” of this movie; or movie plot? Do you want to match this movie using the star rating 1 – 2 – 3 – 4 – 5 (5 is the highest)

Recording methods

  1. Audio file – use an app on your phone to submit an audio mp file
  2. Record yourself using this procedure; a) hold your phone arms length from your body; b) stand up (do not record sitting down); c) direction of phone – portrait (longways / up&down)
  3. Presentation recording a) set up the camera 2 steps away b) standing, and c) phone longways (portrait). Or ask someone to hold the camera for you
  4. Use a application on your smartphone to edit and make a promotion video. Please tell the teacher of apps you like and use. For example:
