Topic: Discovery & Invention (DI)

Aim: In this topic you are going to learn about the meaning of “Discovery & Invention” and why it is so important.

Objectives: read the activity objectives below; *please note at this stage of the course the tasks are combined

  1. Listening comprehension: to watch a topic video and learn the key vocabulary and language
  2. Reading comprehension: to practice reading and learn paragraph writing format styles
  3. Writing: to research an endangered animal and write a short report – paragraph format
  4. Speaking: prepare a short 1 minute presentation about your endangered animal

Unit 6: Discovery & Invention

Aim: To learn about Inventions, describe inventions, and to express your opinions about inventions

Method: Follow these steps. The teacher will give you a worksheet in class.

Submission: There are two documents to submit next week; (A) your task worksheet, (B) Poster

Step 1: Task 1: What is the definition of inventions? Use the internet to help you. Write your own words (10-15 words)

Step 2: Task 2: Listen to the video to learn about 10 famous inventions. Do not take notes yet. Think about the inventions you like the most. Select 3 inventions you like. Write them.

Step 3: Task 3: How did each invention impact society. [Impact = biggest benefit or most advantage]. Write your opinion for each 3 inventions. (15-20 words each)

Step 4: Task 4: Select one invention. Continue to write more information about the impact of this invention in society. Give examples, reasons, and other benefits (30words)

Step 5: Task 5: How important are inventions for our future to improve our everyday life? Write your opinion about research and development for the future of our society. (30 words)

Step 6: Task 6: What are the challenges of the future? Think of them and write abut the future world. (30 words).
